Gingham style has no right or wrong side with respect of its color.
When you think of Gingham what pops into my mind, a warm summer day laying outside with a picnic basket with some very close friends laughing and drinking lemonade.
As an Interior Designer, gingham means French country style that is not entirely true. You can mix and match gingham fabrics with other styles. Having the small checks usually black and white, but hot off the New York Fashion week gingham checks are in all different colors. (all images are from google)
For Interiors like I have stated before you can use gingham fabrics in different styles of homes in different places.
Since living in California, you have so much Spanish influence. Culture, language and home styles. One of my favorite styles of homes are Haciendas.
Hacienda- Spanish word for estate .
Here is a little history of how Spanish has influenced our state: (California) It was then claimed by the Spanish Empire as part of Alta California in the larger territory of New Spain. Alta California became a part of Mexico in 1821 following its successful war for independence, but would later be ceded to the United States in 1848 after the Mexican–American War. Haciendas are a lifestyle, you can have clean interiors such as : (pinterest image from my dream house board)
Or you can have interiors such as this: (pinterest image my dream house board)
Different furniture styles can make a home look more like a hacienda, even the lighting too. You can have a ranch style home but have the interiors to feel more like a Spanish style.
Through my travels in Southern California driving down West Hollywood and even parts of Hollywood and Downtown you do see Haciendas. In my neighborhood here in Northern California in the peninsula there is a lot more Haciendas and Spanish style homes.
